Malaysian Clinical Pharmacy Symposium 6.0 – MCPS 6.0

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has emerged as one of Malaysia’s leading public health issues, with high morbidity and mortality. According to the United States Renal Data System annual data report for 2018, Malaysia has the second-highest rise in the treated End-Stage Renal Failure incidence rate. CKD patients are at high risk for medication-related problems due to polypharmacy and impaired renal excretion. Medication-related problems may lead to reduced quality of life, increased hospital stay, increased overall healthcare cost and eventually increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The involvement of pharmacists as a part of the multidisciplinary team in the care of CKD patients was proven to help prevent drug-related problems, unintentional medication discrepancies and improve patient care. Thus, there is an increasing need to equip the young pharmacists in Malaysia with fundamental solid clinical knowledge in nephrology. Therefore, the theme of Malaysian Clinical Pharmacy Symposium 2022 was “Strengthening the Basics of Renal Pharmacy”.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Pharmacists Society – Renal Pharmacy Chapter and Malaysian Society of Nephrology, the symposium was conducted as a one-and-a-half-day online symposium with a total of 9 different topics delivered by a panel of multidisciplinary speakers (nephrologists, pharmacists & dietitian).
